Frederic Sang

Mr. Sang is also the director of the Touring Choir, the advanced ensemble of the Kalamazoo Children's Chorus. In addition to his involvement with the chorus, Mr. Sang has had a distinguished career in public education have retired afdter thirty years of teaching from Portage Public Schools. He has taught music both here and abroad having been the director of choirs at the American Community School of London, England. He has been recognized nine times by Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Mr. Sang is also a sought after choral clinician and adjudicator throughout the Midwest. His theatrical directorial credits include everything from opera to musical comedy and he continues to direct productions locally. He is a past director of the Kalamazoo Male Chorus, the Voices of Southwest Michigan, and the Messiah Chorus of Southwest Michigan. In addition to his other responsibilities he is the director of the chancel choir at Milwood United Methodist Church.

Mr. Sang resides in Paw Paw with his wife, Darlene, who is the director of the Treble Choir of the Kalamazoo Children's Chorus.

Touring

The Touring Choir is the most advanced ensemble of the Kalamazoo Children's Chorus. They specialize in three and four part treble repertoire with an emphasis on contemporary choral literature. They also perform music of the Renaissance, Classical and Romantic periods. This choir performs with the Kalamazoo Symphony, the Kalamazoo Oratorio Society and for various community organizations. They travel extensively both nationally and internationally.. The Touring Choir performs at the Holiday Concert, Spring Concert, Stage Show and other opportunities as they arise. Membership in this ensemble requires a strong commitment to the rehearsal and performance schedule. Typically members of this ensemble are ages ten through eighteen. In the summer of 2008 the choir participated in the Rhapsody Children's Chorus Festival in Vienna, Salzburg and Prague. Grammy award winning choral director Francisco Nunez called the Touring Choir " One of the finest choirs I have heard in America".
