What happens to Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus kids when they’re all grow up? Sometimes, they come back to direct a choir!
Back in the summer of 2008, Taylor Stevens sang with the Touring Choir in the Rhapsody Children’s Chorus Festival in Vienna, Salzburg and Prague. This season Ms. Stevens returns to KCC as the new choral director of the Concert Choir where she’s inspiring a new generation of singers.
The Concert Choir stresses the development of three part singing along with an emphasis on repertoire in foreign languages. Singers audition for the Concert Choir in the spring and usually move up from the Treble Choir.
The Concert Choir performs at the Holiday Concert, the Spring Concert and the annual Stage Show. Following the season, members of the Concert Choir can decide to remain in that ensemble or audition to sing in the Bel Canto Choir.
In 2013, this ensemble preformed with the Treble Choir and the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra in Carmina Burana at Miller Auditorium to strong reviews in the Kalamazoo Gazette.
The Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus thanks Dr. Ryan Basler and Kalamazoo Pediatric Dentistry for their generous support of the 2013-2014 Concert Choir.
