What happens to Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus kids when they’re all grow up?  Sometimes, they come back to direct a choir!

In the summer of 2008, Taylor Stevens sang with the Touring Choir in the Rhapsody Children’s Chorus Festival in Vienna, Salzburg and Prague.  This season Ms. Stevens returns to KCC as the new choral directorof the Concert Choir where she’s inspiring a new generation of singers.

Taylor Stevens, a former KCC kid, directs the Concert Choir.

The Concert Choir stresses the development of three part singing along with an emphasis on repertoire in foreign languages.  Singers audition for the Concert Choir in the spring and usually move up from the Treble Choir.

The Concert Choir performs at the Holiday Concert, the Spring Concert and the annual Stage Show.  Following the season, members of the Concert Choir can decide to remain in that ensemble or audition to sing in the Bel Canto Choir.

In 2013, this ensemble preformed with the Treble Choir and the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra in Carmina Burana at Miller Auditorium to strong reviews in the Kalamazoo Gazette.  And this season, the Concert Choir joins the Bel Canto Choir and the Kalamazoo Singers for a performance of John Rutter’s Mass of the Children, complete with chamber orchestra on May 3, 2015.  For ticket information, go to the Kalamazoo Singers website.

The Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus thanks Dr. Lorraine Hanna and Briarwood Valley Dentistry at 4017 W Main Street in Kalamazoo for their generous support of the 2014-2015 Concert Choir.
