This choir introduces choral singing along with other musical concepts. Fast & fun!

This choir stresses development of three part singing along with an emphasis on repertoire in foreign languages.  The members of this choir are usual ages nine through 12. Entrance into this choir from the Treble Choir is by audition. The Concert Choir performs at the Holiday Concert, the Spring Concert and the annual Stage Show. Other performances in the community are possible. Following the season members of the Concert Choir can decide to remain in that ensemble or audition to sing in the Touring Choir.

 

Sue Larsen

Sue Larsen joined the Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus as Concert Choir Director in 2004 with twenty-two years of experience as a music educator.  She has taught vocal, instrumental and general music to students from kindergarten to senior high in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan. 

Currently she is the vocal music teacher at Woods Lake Magnet Center for the Arts in the Kalamazoo Public Schools.  In this capacity she collaborates on educational enrichment programs with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Education for the Arts, A+ Schools, and Orff teachers from Kalamazoo and Portage. She has also been the director of the Bay View Choristers, a children's chorus at the Bay View Music Festival in northern Michigan. 

Ms. Larsen holds a degree in Music Education from Susquehanna University, certification in Kindermusik, in Gordon Music Learning Theory, and has studied Aesthetic Education at the Lincoln Center Institute in New York City.  She resides in Kalamazoo with her husband, Scott Thornburg, a professor of trumpet in the School of Music at Western Michigan University, and their three children, Laura, Lee and Eric.
